Lazio, Inter win; Napoli cut Juve lead to one; Benevento relegated despite heroics

Lazio kept up the pressure.

In the race for Champions League places, Lazio and Inter Milan maintained their pursuit of third-placed Roma by winning against Sampdoria and Chievo respectively.

Ciro Immobile pushed on to 27 goals for the season with his late brace against Samp after Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Stefan de Vrij had put Lazio in the driving seat before the break.

Inter, meanwhile, struggled to break Chievo down until Mauro Icardi broke the deadlock from a Danilo D'Ambrosio pass after half-time, with Ivan Perisic doubling the lead before Mariusz Stepinski struck for the relegation-threatened Flying Donkeys at the death.

Kalidou Koulibaly headed Napoli back into the title race with a dramatic last-minute goal to down leaders Juventus 1-0 at Allianz Stadium.

The Senegalese defender left it desperately late to score the goal that fired Napoli to within a single point of reigning champions Juve ahead of the last four games of the season.

Massimiliano Allegri's Bianconeri face a trickier run-in, too, with Champions League hopefuls Inter Milan and Roma providing league opposition in the next few weeks, while there is also the distraction of a Coppa Italia final against AC Milan.

Napoli will hope to capitalise on any slip-up by their modern rivals when they tackle the likes of Torino, Sampdoria and Crotone across their remaining fixtures.

Benevento were relegated to Serie B the day after celebrating their shock victory at AC Milan as results elsewhere on Sunday condemned them to the drop.

The southern club registered their first away win of a difficult season on Saturday night thanks to Pietro Iemmello, who scored the winner in an historic 1-0 triumph at San Siro.

But Crotone's 2-1 victory at Udinese on Sunday afternoon made it mathematically impossible for Benevento to avoid relegation as they are now 14 points shy of safety with only 12 to play for.

Crotone boosted their own chances of staying up by coming from behind with goals from Simy and Davide Faraoni after Kevin Lasagna had given Udinese the early lead at the Dacia Arena.

Atalanta look good for a Europa League berth after defeating Torino 2-1 in Bergamo.

Remo Freuler turned Musa Barrow's assist home in the 50th minute and, after Adem Ljajic equalised, Robin Gosens fired home a clincher from a Timothy Castagne cross.

In the early game, mid-table clubs Cagliari and Bologna drew a blank in Sardinia.
