The Referee's Appointment Committee are expecting improved officiating in the 2011/2012 Ghana Premier League season.

The body has released the list of centre-men and assistants for the opening weekend of matches.

The 'Knights of the Whistle' have pilloried in the past for biased and controversial decisions during league match.

But the newly-constituted Referees Appointment Committee wants to see a significant change this campaign.

''I have called the referees myself to let them know the need for them to perform at their various centres," Chairman Osei Tutu Agyemang told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

"They must apply the rules and regulations to ensure incident-free matches.

"We expect them to be firm and resolute because their next assignments will be based on they performed the previous week."

Agyemang, chairman of the Ashanti Regional Football Association, also revealed that referee will be punished if they perform below par.

''After assessing a referee and we find out his or her performance was poor, we will bring the fellow to book in consultation with the review committee," he added.

"No referee will go unpunished if he fails to perform.''
