Lee Seung-woo sets sights on FIFA U-20 World Cup final

Seoul: Korea Republic and Barcelona hotshot Lee Seung-woo has set his sights on a place in the FIFA U-20 World Cup final following his country’s opening day win over Guinea.

Goals from Lee Seung-woo, Lee Min-hyeok and Paik Seung-ho sealed all three points for the Taeguk Warriors as they struggled early on, but eventually powered past their African opponents to go second in Group B.

With games against Argentina on Tuesday and England three days later looming large on the horizon, there are undoubtedly plenty of tests still to come for the talented East Asians if they are to have a chance of bettering their Round of 16 finish at the tournament’s last edition in Chile – something Lee is determined to do.

“This U-20 World Cup is different from the tournament in Chile. We've got home advantage and I want to go further than the Round of 16," Lee, who scored one and set up another for Lee Min-hyeok, told FIFA.com.

That ambition is borne out by the message in the new haircut that Lee is sporting at the tournament. “I change my hairstyle ahead of any major tournament and this one was no exception," he explained.

"The initials SW that are visible in my sideburns represent not only my name, but also my desire to achieve six wins and progress to the final, which is to be held in my hometown of Suwon."

By way of coincidence, the Koreans also faced both Guinea and England during the Group Stage two years ago, although Shin Tae-yong’s charges will take on Argentina instead of Brazil this time around, a challenge Lee and the Taeguk Warriors are fully prepared for.

"Argentina are the South American heavyweights, so we are in no position to underestimate them in any way.

“We will prepare well and make sure that we are even more pumped up ahead of our second game. After all, a win would all but secure our passage into the knockout rounds."
