Leicester City U21 trainer Steve Beaglehole has insisted Ghana defender Daniel Amartey proofed his qualities on his debut for the Development Squad but admits he enjoyed a difficult debut.

The Ghana international got his maiden playing minutes at Leicester City by playing in their U21 defeat against Reading in the Barclays U21 Premier League.

Development Squad manager Steve Beaglehole said of the defender’s performance: “While it was a difficult game for him, not knowing too many of the lads yet and it being in difficult conditions, he looked very comfortable.

“He looks like he will be a very good addition to the first team squad I’m sure. I saw a lot of positives from his performance, as did the manager, Claudio Ranieri, who came down to watch him and sat on the bench, which was of course great for our young lads to experience too.”

Amartey is looking to make his debut for the Foxes over the weekend when they travel to play Arsenal on Monday.
