Leicester give Adrien Silva No. 14 after missing transfer deadline by 14 seconds

Adrien Silva's proposed summer move to Leicester missed the transfer deadline by just 14 seconds.

He may still be unable to actually play for his new side, but Adrien Silva has at last been able to join the Leicester City squad to train alongside his teammates.

Leicester signed Silva from Sporting Lisbon on deadline day but missed the registration deadline by just 14 seconds thus leaving the midfielder in a state of footballing limbo.

The Foxes then appealed to FIFA to grant an International Transfer Certificate and thus allow the £22 million deal to go through only to see their plea rejected, leaving Silva unable to play for them (or anybody else) until January.

Still, at least Silva has now been integrated into the group, and it would appear that, given the narrow margin by which he missed the aforementioned deadline, Leicester have bestowed him with a rather pithy new squad number.

Of course, we can't be sure if the No.14 jersey is a deliberate reference to the number of excess seconds Leicester bungled Silva's signing by, but we certainly like to imagine it is.

Roll on January 2018.
