Liberia U23 suffered a 2-0 defeat to Ghana

Communications Director of the Liberian FA Henry Flomo believes his country’s U23 team suffered from jet lag in their 2-0 defeat to Ghana over the weekend in Tamale.

The Junior Lone Stars were downed by the Black Meteors in the opening 2016 Olympic Games qualifier.

Ghana playing at home, had enough time to prepare for the match with most of their players home-based.

Liberia also despite having a predominant home-based team, suffered setbacks in their travel arrangements to Ghana for the game.

The side arrived late for the match played in Tamale and were found wanting as the game wore on.

The Black Meteors took advantage with their thorough dominance and should have probably scored more.

Spokesman for the Liberian FA Henry Lomo admits his side was always going to be second best with fatigue setting in.

"Liberia has lost by 2-0. Good composure, good timing, but lack of zest and hunger,” Flomo noted.

“Connection between the middle and forward was wanting. Maybe fatigue and strategy took advantage of the U23."

Liberia will host Ghana in the return leg of the qualifier in Accra due to the outbreak of the Ebola virus in their country.
