Limited spaces for journalists in Kotoko-Hearts clash

A little over 200 accredited journalists will be allowed entry to the Baba Yara Stadium to cover the Premier League game between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

The decision to limit the media coverage of the outstanding league top liner is due to the heightened media interest in the match as against the very limited space at the press box of the stadium in Kumasi.

No other Premier League game will be played on Sunday – meaning almost all media houses in Ghana and some members of the international press will be focusing on the game.

Thus, the Venue Media Officier Kwaku Ahenkora explains the mode of allotments to be made to the media.

“Media outlets in Kumasi have been allotted two slots while those outside Kumasi and the rest of the country and the international media, get one,” he said.

“In the event where a case can be stated for a peculiar situation which calls for more than the stipulated number, it could be considered.

“I am reliably informed that the PLB has accredited almost 300 media outlets which amounts to about 1,500 individual media men all over Ghana. Sadly, the press box at the Baba Yara Stadium cannot contain even half of that figure.

“The last count I did with the Regional Football Association chairman and the National Sports Authority shows that the facility can accommodate a little over 200 media men.

“Let's also not forget that it is the only fixture in Ghana's league which attracts international attention so media from outside the shores of the country are also expected.

“These reasons informed the decision to restrict the number of media men who will be allowed into the press box to a manageable figure.”

Accredited Premier League journalists are to use the T.I Ahmadiyya entrance of the stadium and are also required to come along with their company ID cards before being passed to enter.
