Lionel Messi has been named UEFA’s Best Player in Europe for the 2014-15 season.

Messi, 27, was the overwhelming favorite to win it and he beat finalists Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez to the accolade.

In a glitzy ceremony in Monaco following the draw for the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League group stage, Messi was honored on stage by UEFA’s President Michel Platini for his stunning season for Barcelona.

The Argentine playmaker scored 58 goals in all competitions for Barca during the 2014-15 season as they won the La Liga, Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League treble.

It is the second time Messi has won the award, the last time he won it was back in 2011 when Barcelona won the La Liga and UCL double.
