Kotoko ditch noisy Tema Youth at the death

Asante Kotoko's title defence was handed a 2-1 boost after victory against Tema Youth in Tema on Sunday.

Centre-back Rashid Sumaila struck late on to snatch the precious three points after last week's poor display at home.

The champions needed the win to atone for the disappointing 0-0 draw with rivals Hearts of Oak in Kumasi.

Striker Ben Acheampong who had a poor game against Hearts made amends by fetching the opening goal after 26 minutes.

The goal sprung the home side to life but were unable to break Kotoko’s resolute defence in the first half.

The Harbour Boys were however the quickest out of the blocks for the second half as Francis Narh converted a 50th minute penalty.

The game looked destined to end in a draw until a late effort by defender Rashid Sumaila found its way into the net much to the delight of the travelling fans.

The result meant Kotoko remained unbeaten in the Ghana topflight haven won three and drawn five after eight round of games.
