Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: I know only results will keep me safe

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he knows they need to show progress on the pitch to justify his long-term plans.

The short-termism of modern football was laid bare this week by Claudio Ranieri's sacking by Leicester City - just nine months after leading them to Premier League glory.

“I'm not experienced in other situations where you don't get time," Klopp said.

“I have always had this. I've always been on a long contract, as long as I wanted, and I have no idea why exactly it happened to me.

“Liverpool as a club wants to have a long relationship with its manager but as always it all depends on success. If we cannot win anything or even come close to big things over the next few years then it will be difficult to go for it.

“But in this moment everyone is absolutely convinced about going for it with this manager, this team and these coaches. With a few changes we believe we can reach the highest and that is what we are all working for. We think we know that it will happen.

“But we have to fill the period between now and then with as many wonderful performances as possible. That will make it easier for the people to wait."
