Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard can see Wayne Rooney leaving Manchester United.
Rooney continues to be linked with a move to China this week.
Towards the end of his career, Gerrard's role was reduced at Liverpool and he moved on to LA Galaxy for his final years. He believes Rooney will not want to be a squad player after 13 years at United.
"I put myself in Wayne's shoes," Gerrard told BT Sport. "I've been in that position, where you become a squad player and it's not the same. You don't enjoy it as much.
"I know how much Wayne Rooney loves playing and starting games. I don't know exactly what Wayne is thinking, but I don't blame him if he wants to go and start and play on a weekly basis, and not be a squad player."
