Lopez: Napoli must forget all about Europa League failure

Published on: 25 February 2016

Napoli midfielder David Lopez says that the Partenopei must erase their Europa League failure from their minds to keep their Serie A season on track.

The Neapolitans were unable to make their way past Villarreal in the round of 32 in the Europa League on Thursday, drawing 1-1 in the second leg, and despite the disappointment Lopez says it all must be forgotten.

“We’ve all seen that our European goals have suffered,” he said to Sky Sport Italia.

“We must react quickly without thinking of the elimination and instead right away be thinking about playing Fiorentina.”

Monday night’s league fixture against Fiorentina could prove to be decisive in this season’s title race, with Napoli only a point behind leaders Juventus but also just five points ahead of the upcoming Viola.

Depending on results, the three main challengers for the Scudetto could be separated by only four points come Monday night.

“We must beat Fiorentina and then move on,” the Spaniard urged.

“They play pure football and it will be a difficult match, but we’ll have to face them with the nastiness that sets us aside from other teams and bring three points back to Naples.”
