Lowly-placed Aston Villa can improve with Derek Boateng signing

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert can turn his side's season around if he can secure Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng during the January transfer.

The Sun has revealed that Derek Boateng is being considered as someone who Lambert may look to buy in attempt to improve in the second half of the season.

The well-travelled Ghanaian has played at 8 different clubs in 7 different leagues and has 40 International caps to his name.

Currently he plays in the Ukrainian League for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in a defensive midfield role.

At 29, Boateng would add some welcomed experience to a relatively young Aston Villa side.

While it seems unlikely Derek Boateng would inspire the whole squad to start grabbing handfuls of goals, he would offer assurance and solidity in midfield, an area that Villa have looked vulnerable so far this season.

According to the Daily Mail, Fulham are also interested in signing Boateng and value him at around £2 million.

If Villa can beat Fulham to his signature, along with at least another in form striker, he could be part of a New Year rejuvenation.

Aston Villa currently sit 17th in Premier League.
