Malawi boosted by Vietnam-based striker for Ghana qualifier

Malawi have been boosted by the return of Vietnam-based Victor Nyirenda for their final 2013 Nations Cup qualifier against Ghana.

The striker-cum midfielder has been out of the Flames set-up due to a long-term injury he suffered in 2010.

Nyirenda was a member of the Malawi team which played at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Angola.

The last time he joined the Flames camp was in March 2011 but he brought with him a letter from his former club APR FC advising the Flames not to use him due to an injury.

The Dong Nai FC player has now regained full fitness and he is expected in camp on Friday.

"Victor will be joining the team on August 24th. Their league has just wrapped up and he is now free," Malawi coach Kinnah Phiri said.

Phiri is also expected more Malawi players abroad for next month's first leg qualifier in Accra.

"I indeed already submitted the squad of professional players to FAM but the general secretary will release the list after he verifies with their various clubs on the fitness of the players," he said.
