Man City and Man Utd set to battle it out for Barcelona maestro Neymar

Manchester City and Manchester United are preparing for a summer rumble over Neymar.

According to reports from The Sun, the Manc rivals will joust it out for the Barcelona superstar who comes with an enormous £144million buyout clause.

United have been on the trail of the Brazilian ace, 24, since last summer and have been linked with a potential bid for his services at the end of the current season.

City's name has now been thrown in the ring in the wake of the announcement that will see Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola replace Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad Stadium.

City, who are bankrolled by the mega-rich City Football Group, have the funds available to make such a play for the talented forward who arrived at Camp Nou in 2013 after Guardiola had departed.

But the opportunity to work with the world's most decorated coach may appeal to a player like Neymar who is intent on improving his game even further.

Across town, the Red Devils are determined to make the former Santos star the face of the club and will do everything they can to beat their local rivals to the prized signing.

United see the possible arrival of Neymar as an enormous coup from a commercial sense as they look to catapult themselves back into the top echelon in both the UK and Europe following a few lean seasons post-Sir Alex Ferguson.

It is believed that Neymar is willing to leave Barcelona so he can be the number one man at another club with Lionel Messi standing in his way in Catalonia.

The supreme talent, who has scored a phenomenal 75 goals in 121 outings for Barca, is contracted until 2018 but according to his father, has no obligation to the Blaugrana.

"There is no reason why he should sign a new deal at Barcelona," Neymar Snr said last week.

Expect the tussle between the two Manchester clubs to get serious as the summer transfer window approaches as the reds and the blues jockey for top billing in the race for this once in a lifetime footballer.
