Man United see off Brighton

Manchester United secured their spot in the FA semifinals with a 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Romelu Lukaku provided a lead in the first half before Nemanja Matic wrapped up the tie with a second goal seven minutes from time as United joined Tottenham in advancing to the last four.

Manager Jose Mourinho, who has spent four days defending his record since United's Champions League exit on Tuesday, opted to leave Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez on the bench and neither came on as substitutes.

United nearly took the lead on the half hour as Juan Mata's shot was deflected behind, and from the resulting corner Chris Smalling hit the outside of the post.

But seven minutes later Lukaku headed home from Matic's cross to put United in front with his 25th goal of the season in all competitions.

United keeper Sergio Romero preserved the lead in the 57th minute with a fine save to deny Jurgen Locadia.

And in the 83rd minute Matic rose highest to head home a free kick from substitute Ashley Young as United saw out the result.
