Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been handed an extra £50 million to spend this summer.

The Sunday Express says half of that has been earmarked on trying to lure Robin van Persie to Old Trafford, which is £10m more than the bid they had turned down for the Dutchman last week.

The other half is set to be offered for 19-year-old Brazilian starlet Lucas Moura, who plies his trade at Sao Paulo. And in both cases Fergie faces fierce competition.

Manchester City and Juventus are both rivals for the signature of Van Persie while Inter Milan will fight United for the young Brazilian.
