Wayne Rooney has been left out of the Manchester United squad for Wednesday's Europa League last-32 second-leg tie with Saint-Etienne.

The 31 year old has missed the last four United games and boss Jose Mourinho said on Sunday his captain was unlikely to make the trip to France.

The 20-man squad included Timothy Fosu-Mensah but not Luke Shaw or Matteo Darmian.

Midfielder Ander Herrera is suspended and defender Phil Jones is absent with a hamstring injury.

Man Utd squad: De Gea, Romero, O'Hara, Valencia, Smalling, Bailly, Rojo, Blind, Young, Fosu-Mensah, Carrick, Pogba, Fellaini, Schweinsteiger, Mata, Martial, Lingard, Mkhitaryan, Ibrahimovic, Rashford.
