Manchester City favourite to land Ghanaian sensation Godfred Donsah

Manchester City are reportedly favourites to sign Cagliari midfielder Godfred Donsah, for whom Arsenal, Livepool and Tottenham are said to have made formal approaches, as reported by the Mirror.

The 18-year old has also been subject to interest from Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool (via Mirror) and has been likened to his fellow countryman and former Chelsea star Michael Essien.

Donsah has previously played for Palermo and Verona and has made 16 appearances this season for Cagliari scoring twice. He spoke of his delight at being linked with the Premier League but assured fans of the Italian club that he feels good under manager Gianfranco Zola.

Donsah – as per the aforementioned report – said: “I am happy to be targeted by Manchester City. But I feel good at Cagliari – we are doing well.

“I am inspired by Michael Essien. He is my role model.”

Cagliari are struggling in Serie A this season and following a 2-1 home defeat against Hellas Verona, they are three points from safety in the relegation zone after winning just four games all season with Champions League contenders Sampdoria up next.

According to the Mirror, scouts were in Milan to watch the young midfielder, who can also operate at right-back, during Cagliari’s 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan at the end of February.

Despite all the interest in the Ghanaian it remains to be seen whether a bid has been put in place but his agent has confirmed that clubs from the Premier League have been keeping tabs on his development in Italy.

His agent Oliver Arthur said, as quoted by the Mirror: “There’s lots of interest in Donsah right now, especially from clubs in the UK.

“Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal have made official enquiries about him. For now, they are scouting him, and there is nothing concrete.”
