MANCHESTER UNITED - De Gea voted Manchester United\'s Player of the Month

Published on: 02 April 2016

Gea has been awarded the Player of the Month award for March by Manchester United supporters.

De Gea won with 72% of the Twitter vote ahead of French striker Anthony Martial in second while third was held by England defender Chris Smalling.

The reigning Player of the Year for United received the award on Friday, the first occasion he has won the Player of the Month accolade at the club.

A notable individual performance in the Europa League defeat to Liverpool and a clean sheet against Manchester City were some of the Spaniard's highlights last month.

Former United player Teddy Sheringham believes De Gea is the only player performing this season for United.

"De Gea is probably the only one playing to his potential, and that's not good for a football club when your goalkeeper is the only player doing that," Sheringham told Daily Mail.

With United currently sixth in the Premier League, Louis van Gaal's future is uncertain amidst reports that Jose Mourinho is ready to take the reins next season.
