Bayern Munich and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been ruled out until January after suffering a hairline fracture in his foot for the second time in six months.

“The fact that Manuel Neuer has once again suffered an injury, is so terribly sorry for him,” said Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “The operation has gone perfectly, though, and this is the most important thing now. We’re now looking forward together with our captain. Manuel will be back to full strength in January.”

Sven Ulreich will stand in for the world’s best goalkeeper until the end of the year, with 17-year-old Christian Früchtl acting as his understudy.
