Marcel Desailly has been appointed as theAfrica ambassador for the French Football Federation (FFF) in a bid to revive the body’s battered image, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The chairman of the FFF Noel Le Graet handed the Ghana-born legend the post on Thursday as it attempts to recover from the damaging scandal of the introduction of quotas for selection of players to the national team.

A secret plan hatched by the FFF to limit the number of players with African heritage was exposed in the media which nearly brought down the federation.

Desailly, who won the 1998 World Cup with the European side, has been given the role to repair image of the FFF among Africans.

"He (Desailly) will be placed in charge of representing the federation in Africa -- I see him as an ambassador, though he does not like this term," said Le Graet.

"It is about transmitting an image of a more generousFrancethan in recent

times and Marcel offered a measured (response) during the quotas and

dual-nationality affair and I appreciated that," said Le Graet.

The idea to limit the Africans in the French squad was seemingly supported by coach Laurent Blanc but support and measured response from Desailly calmed nerves.

He has now been appointed to promote the values of the FFF among African countries.

Desailly has settled inGhanaand has opened a centre for training for kids and the general public in East Legon, a suburb ofAccra.
