Andre 'Dede' Ayew set to be named deputy Black Stars captain

Andre Ayew is set to be named the deputy Black Stars captain

France-based midfielder Andre Ayew is set to be named the deputy captain of Ghana's national team following the likely exit of Michael Essien from the Black Stars.

According to a report on a local radio station, Asempa Leaks, the Marseille superstar will take over the position when the Black Stars assemble for their next assignment.

The report claimed that AC Milan star Essien will not be invited to play for the Black Stars in the immediate future following alleged acts of indiscipline.

According to the report, Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah is determined to stamp out all traces of indiscipline from the Black Stars after the indefinite suspension of Kevin Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari.

This shows that the trio, who were contestants for the Black Stars deputy captain's position, are unlikely to return to the Black Stars any time soon.

Ayew, son of Ghana legend Abedi Ayew Pele, has long been touted to lead the Black Stars as a skipper following in the footsteps of his father.

The Marseille superstar led Ghana to win the U20 World Cup title and he is widely tipped to become a future leader in the Black Stars team

Do you think this is the right decision? Do you think Ayew will be a good leader for the Black Stars? Make your views known in the box below:

I heard about the Abedi and Tony Yeboah problem. Maybe the reason Andrea Ayew will made asst. captain is because he speaks fluent english and french. The captain must be fluent in at least english. I watched a Tony Yeboah interview during the 2006 WC and he couldn't speak english properly !

@Louis. Captaincy is not about seniority but leadership. Dede's got all the qualities of a leader. Perhaps, you have no idea what he did for the U-20 both on and off the pitch when he led the team to victory. His mates at that level hold him in high regard. I don't mind (and most Ghanaian's too) if he was named captain of the BS. Even the so called senior players respect him. I agree though, that AA is a terrible coach and must not be retained. GOD BLESS OUR HOMELAND GHANA!

This is a good move by AA. The likes of Ginola, Cantona, Nasri when at their peak were dropped from the France national team to instil discipline. KPB does not feel Ghanaian he simply used us to revive his career. Essien on the other hand looks more like a fan rather than footballer. Muntari has great form but his boxinic character makes him very dangerous to near the BS team. Dede more than committed to be the deputy captain. What the trio feared had finally happened.

In a normal circumstance I will advocate for Dede to be the captain but in this particular case I don't it is advisable. Dede should not take it

am big fan of dede but selection of captain has always been the problem of blackstars in the past. if dede started playing bs b4 k.asa then we are speaking the same language.aren't we? Wikipedia says k.asa started playing bs in 2006. droping no. 10 jersey only shows love for peace, love for bs,understanding and maturity which are also needed for good leadership we all love bs and don't want the basic mistakes of the past that has cost us so much be repeated. we don't want any qualified player to feel cheated and bitter so that all can play whole-heartedly for a better bs. goodluck to bs and goodday

Please, I think it is too early to publish an unconfirmed report and moreover, Essien is not charged. Thanks

Ayew should refuse it until issues in the team have been solved. They just trying to use him indirectly against essien, muntari, and boateng

Only a useless coach will drop his superstars simply because he does not have the required knowledge to lead them. Useless, clueless coach. God is watching

I think he should be made the substensive captain, because Asamoah Gyan did nothing to help the situation in Brazil .

Is Asamoah Gyan a leader at all??? A leader who has no influence on the playing body?? A leader who is manipulated by management. He is part of the trouble because his team mates don't trust him because of he take sides with the management. If Asamoah Gyan has respect of his team mates, some of these issues would not have surfaced.. The whole playing body have no trust and respect for management. If they have, I don't think they boys will revolt. I see the situation as, employees revolting against their employers and management because of so many issues such as, their welfare has been neglected, financial resources is being mismanaged, the management is greedily thinking of themselves and exploiting their employees, management sleeping with women left and right and many more. Mind you, these boys are not fools. They knew what they have done. And one mistake they are doing is, they are not coming out to say anything. They should spill out the truth. Maybe they are afraid to be victimised and will not have the chance of playing for Ghana again. However, they forget that, if they don't speak out, the same issues will re-surface again and who will they blame? Themselves? I was thinking Asamoah Gyan as the leader of the team, will make an official statement to Ghanaians to spell out what were the causes of the events that had happened. The management is not taking responsibility and blaming players instead. I know, in a civilised world, if something goes wrong, even it might not be the cause of the leader or head of management, but because they are at helm of affairs, they take responsibility and resign. I am done.

This is a position which is there for him, so he doesn't need to rush for it. He is even our future black stars skipper. Tho trio should be expelled from the stars and must never be invited to the team. They've contributed their quota and is time the young chaps take over.

Take it, do not take it. Habaaa Ghana people. It should be Kwadwo Asamoah or Dede Ayew. Muntari, Essien and Prince Boateng are not a good influence. The way forward is to use the younger generation.

one of the reasons for Ghana's poor wc is that essien+muntari felt they were senior to gyan so the 2 +kpb never saw gyan as captain and never regarded him as such. to avoid any problems in future, seniority(,form and leadership qualities must be considered. on these basis, I think gyan,k asamoah and dede shd be captain in this order as all of them are starters for the coach. k.asa is senior to dede as far as playing for black stars is concerned and has all the leadership qualities as well

@Daniel. Get your facts right. And please stop throwing dust into public's eye. Dede is senior to K.Asamoah. Dede's 1st appearance for the national team was in August 21, 2007 against Senegal while Kwadwo Asamoah's 1st appearance was against CIV in February 9th, 2008. I like Kwadwo too but I don't think he has what it takes to lead the team. He can't stand pressure, and I am saying so because of his reasons for refusing to wear the no. 10 Jersey. All the best.

Wikipedia? Visit FIFA website, the profile of all the 23 BS player are there for all to see. Dede was called to the NT before Kwadwo. However, KA has won more CAPS than Dede because they stopped calling him for national assignment as Ghanaians thought that at age 17, Dede was too young to be playing for the BS. And also because of "self impose exile". Honestly, I don't see how Capt. should be a problem if we had a good coach. Someone who is tactically and technically good and can massage egos in the team. Bless!
