Ghana winger Andre Ayew has been ruled out of action for two weeks for the thigh injury he suffered while playing for the Black Stars this week, dealing his French club Marseille a huge blow.

Suffering from a groin strain picked up on international duty, the Marseille forward André Ayew will be missing as Marcelo Bielsa's men look to fend off Paris Saint-Germain with a win at home to Bordeaux on Sunday.

The Marseille forward, who has scored penalties in two of his nation’s five Group E matches to date, was substituted in the second half of Ghana’s 1-0 defeat to Uganda on Saturday.

He was part of the Ghana squad that stitched up a place at AFCON 2015 on Wednesday night but the 24-year-old took no part in the decisive 3-1 win over Togo.

Ayew travelled to France on Monday and will be sidelined for the Bordeaux match and, quite possibly, Week 15's trip to Nantes after doctors rules him out of action for two weeks.

"Examinations revealed a detachment of the right adductor longus," Marseille club doctors announced of the injury to the versatile forward who has claimed two goals and two assists in his 12 Ligue 1 appearances this season.

"This type of injury typically takes 12 to 14 days to heal."

With two losses in their last three league outings, Olympique de Marseille now have just a one-point lead atop the Ligue 1 table but will have to do without the services of Ghana international André Ayew as they try to hang onto their lead in the home clash against Bordeaux on Sunday.

The news comes at a delicate time for coach Marcelo Bielsa who, aside from his team's recent disappointing results, including a 2-0 Classique loss to Paris Saint-Germain, is also dealing with a number of other injury and suspension concerns.
