It is a dawn of new era for Ashanti Gold SC as the club have new owners who started their mandate on 1st March, 2018.

They begin the 2017/2018 Ghana Premier League season at home, the Len Clay stadium against Wa All Stars on Sunday.

The Elephants plan of starting the new season on a brighter note to prevent a dreadful campaign like they experienced last term.

They needed a last day victory to avoid relegation last season.

Charles Kwablan Akonnor will lead and guide the team for this fixture as he awaits to put pen to paper officially.

He successfully aided the club to avoid the drop last season after taking over from Bashir Hayford midway.

New arrivals James Akaminko, Seth Owusu, Abdul Latif Anabila, Godfred Asiamah and loanees from Asante Kotoko SC, Richard Osei Agyemang and Isaac Quansah are likely to make their debuts on Sunday.

Wa All Stars will be making the long trip to Obuasi with loads of confidence after what is seemed to be a successful pre-season.

The Northern Blues defied all odds to clinch the GFA Gala competition few months ago at the Nduom Sports Complex in Elmina where they beat Eleven Wonders FC on penalties.

The visitors finished 7th on the log last season and would be aiming at improving on that this campaign.

Picking at least a point on Sunday will be hugely considered as a good start to a new season.

Star performer last term, David Abagna Sandan is fully fit to face Ashanti Gold SC this weekend. He missed the GFA Gala competition through an injury.

Maxwell Oppong is tipped to be given a competitive debut on Sunday by coach Alhaji Mumuni Sokpari after excelling in the Gala competition.

He scored both goals when they beat Bechem United 2-0 in the semi-finals.

Issahaku Zakaria, Rashid Alhassan and Yusif Ibrahim are all in contention for their first bows.
