WAFA

After their best ever campaign in the Ghana Premier League last season, finishing second, WAFA SC open this season's account against Asante Kotoko SC.

The Academy Lads hosts the Porcupine Warriors at the difficult Sogakope park where they last recorded a defeat in January, 2015.

A win on Sunday will be another perfect start for the hosts.

They go into the new season without several of their integral squad members last term.

Emmanuel Boateng, Caleb Amankwah, Richmond Nii Lamptey, Prince Obeng Ampem and Abdul Wahab Ibrahim have all left the club.

Razak Abalora, Majeed Ashimeru and Komlan Agbegniadan left before the end of the last season.

They will also be without centre back Abukari Ibrahim who is treating an injury.

Latest additions, Sabi Acquah and Konadu Yiadom could make their first bows if selected by gaffer Klavs Rasmussen.

Asante Kotoko SC are traveling to the Volta Region with the intentions of getting a resurgence

following a disappointing African campaign.

The Porcupine Warriors suffered an exit in the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round to Congolese side CARA Brazaville few weeks ago on penalties.

The poor show in the continental club competition has seen head coach Steven Polack sacked by the club afterwards. He has been replaced by Paa Kwesi Fabin.

Nothing but a victory will revatalise them going into the season.

New boys Wahab Adams, Frederick Boateng and Jordan Opoku are likely to be handed their debuts on the weekend against WAFA SC.

Sadick Adams has been ruled out to face the Academy boys. He will spend about six weeks on the sidelines.

He was substituted in the first half of the second leg encounter against CARA Brazaville weeks ago due to an injury.

Assistant coach Akakpo Patron will be on the dugout against his former side WAFA SC for the first time.
