Ten-man Bechem United put up a defensive masterclass to beat high-flying Ebusua Dwarfs 2-0 on Saturday for their first away win in two years to boost their survival chances.

The Hunters played the chunk of the second half with a one-down after Solomon Mensah picked up his second yellow card after smashing the face of Joseph Esso with a bicycle kick.

But Bechem did not panic and arranged their bodies well behind the box and hit their hosts on the break.

The first half was more of the same as the visitors who lacked the oomph upfront after missing the services of top striker Abednego Tetteh who was suspended.

Yao Abosti stepped in for him and the smallish looking makeshift centre forward pass with distinction as he forced the Dwarfs centre back pair of Kingsley Nteng and Musah Mohammed to make mistakes albeit he was often caught in the offside trap.

An unmarked Abotsi gave the visitors the lead on 83 minutes with a sublime finish when turned in Yaw Arnol’s cross from the right.

In added on time, left back Asante Agyemang intercepted an attack and raced pass the centre line before dinging a ball one over the Dwarfs goalkeeper Frank Andoh.

The ball struck the top corner of the goal post and then came back to hit the leg of Andoh on the goal line into the net to seal the precious win.

Bechem United have now improved to 7th on the table; seven points above the relegation mark.
