Match Report: Liberty Professionals 0-1 Hearts of Oak- Phobians get respite but still rooted second-bottom

Published on: 05 August 2015

Hearts of Oak gave their survival chances some hope after securing a slender 1-0 win at Liberty Professionals on Wednesday in Dansoman.

However, the struggling capital still remained in the relegation zone; second-bottom on the league table.

Striker Foovi Aguidi struck from inside the area of Liberty on 71 minutes to seal the points for the Phobians.

But the Togolese import had early on in the match fluffed a scoring easier to score from 15 yards.

It was a horrible miss as he failed to plant the ball into the net after dummying two Liberty defenders.

But his final shot went straight into the hands of goalkeeper Daniel Agyei.

Hearts cut Liberty’s defence open with a threaded pass from midfield which found Kumi on the right flank but captain Alfred Nelson threw in a steel tackle to win the ball- amidst shouts for an infringement.

Just a minute later, Kennedy Ashia nearly punished Hearts when he intercepted a ball and surged forward but Tetteh Luggard dived to parry out superbly. He picked up an injury which later took him out of the match.

On 25 minutes, Hearts midfielder Richard Yamoah powered in a canon but Agyei was up to the task with nice effort to push it over the frame for a corner-kick which was wasted.

Before the half whistle, striker Felix Addo profited from a teed up header on a corner kick but he blasted wide.

Hearts came into the second half revitalized and Foovi slotted in. He peeled to the right, collected a pass from just outside the box and shot in low grounder to the left which beat Agyei.

Midfielder Sabahn Laryea could not smash home the assurance goal as he feebly shot into the hands of goalkeeper Agyei on the break.

Liberty had chances but lacked the cutting edge to snatch the equalizer.
