Wa All Stars needed a last-gasp penalty from Wahidu Mumuni to register their first win of the season as they edged Inter Allies 1-0 at the Wa Park in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

Allies frustrated the league champions for better part of the game until Mumuni scored in stoppage-time from the penalty spot.

All Stars began the game on a brighter note when David Abagna rattled the crossbar with a fierce drive on the third minute.

Allies's response came ten minutes later when Musah Hashmin applied a chipping effort to a tailor-made pass from midfield. He held his face in disbelief as All Stars keeper Abu Seidu made a routine save.

Duo Isaac Twum and Isaac Osae entered the fray in attacking midfield to keep the tie fairly balanced.

In the closing stages of the first-half, Paul Abanga and Shaibu Haruna combined to stop Richard Arthur who had persisted to get the opening goal of the day.

Allies coach Prince Owusu was forced to make changes moments after the interval as injured Haruna was replaced by Samuel Bekoe.

Goalkeeper Kotei Blankson drew applauds from entire spectatory when he pulled a world-class stop from a Wahidu Mumuni ferocious drive.

Issahaku Konda was booked for a double-footed assault on Osae in an intensed midfield struggle.

All Stars Kwaku Asuandzie needed medical attention after crashing down in a tussle. The youngster was rushed to the Wa General Hospital after the Red Cross officials deemed it necessary.

With 2 minutes left of the added-time, Wahidu scored from the penalty spot to claim the first win of the season for the title-holders.
