Former Ghana FA boss Ben Koufie insists no lessons have been learnt from the infamous May 9 stadium disaster which claimed 127 lives.

The disaster which happened eleven years ago at the Accra Sports Stadium was said to have been catalysed by a referee decision during the big Ghanaian derby between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.

Irate fans demonstated their fury at the decision in the game which ended 2-1 in favour of the Phobians by throwing misiles onto the picth prompting the firing of tear gas into the stands by the police forces on duty.

And with woefully inadequate medical facilities available, 127 lives perished in one of the biggest casualty disasters on the African continent.

And Koufie who presided over the disaster as the chairman of the Ghana FA at the time says lessons picked up from incidents leading to the gory scenes remains unlearnt.

"Nobody would like for such an incident to occur again but after that time you can clearly see we have learnt nothing from it," he told Kumasi-based Fox FM.

"It hurts to know that the troubles such as attacking officials which led to the May 9 disaster still remains.

"Also the performance of referees which started everything in the first place leaves much to be desired."

A friendly game is being played between the national U-20 (Black Satelites) and U-17 (Black Starlets) to commemorate the disaster which struck Ghana football at 3pm on Wednesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
