McAteer: I broke my leg but Fowler told me I just had cramp!

Published on: 23 February 2017

Jason McAteer has explained how Robbie Fowler once mistook a broken leg for cramp.

McAteer suffered a horrific injury during Liverpool's 0-0 draw against Blackburn Rovers back in 1998 and it was immediately clear for everyone to see to the naked eye that the ex-midfielder was in trouble.

However, teammate Fowler did not seem to think the injury to McAteer was such a serious one and the 45-year-old has revealed how the ex-striker thought at the time that the injury was only a minor cramp.

McAteer said: "I changed my mind last minute and as I crossed I put too much pressure on my left standing leg and it just snapped.

"I remember Robbie Fowler telling me I had cramp.

"He told me he'd see me in the nightclub later that night!"
