Medeama edge Berekum Chelsea to pull away at the top

Medeama beat Berekum Chelsea 1-0 to open a three point lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League table on Wednesday.

Theophilus Anobah scored the decisive goal on the 8th minute mark after goalkeeper Ernest Sowah failed to clear Bismark Asiedu's cross.

The former AshantiGold player tapped in from close range as his kick soared past two defenders to give the hosts the lead.

Chelsea resumed the second half with renewed confidence but found the well-composed defensive network of the home side difficult to break.

The Mauve and Yellows had the chunk of possession and dictated the pace of the game on a soggy pitch.

Both sides had difficulty with ball control but Medeama managed to string their passes together with Daniel Larbi Koomson operating effectively from the left wing.

Berekum Chelsea coach Yusif Abubakar introduced striker Sadick Adams into the game in the 65th minute but his two attempts from free-kicks could not level the scores.

It is Berekum Chelsea's first defeat of the season and leaves them second on the table.
