Medeama beat Lions in six-goal thriller

Bashir Hayford marked his return to the Medeama SC bench with a 4-2 win over Heart of Lions at the Essipong Stadium in a meandering game.

Hayford was taking charge of his first match for the Mauves and Yellows after ending his leave period.

Medeam, who lost last week, drew first blood through striker Louis Agyeman who headed in Francis Coffie's second consecutive corner-kick on eight minutes.

The goal did little to slow down Lions who continued to pile pressure were once again undone by a Hans Kouffie strike in the 20th minute.

Agyeman's cross was connected home by Kouffie for the second goal from close range with his right foot.

Goalkeeper Addo had a first touch on the ball but it bounced off the turf to enter the net.

Six minutes later Gilbert Fiamenyo reduced the deficit from the spot after Ofosu Amoah was cynically brought down inside the box by Yusif Nurudeen.

Medeama went into the break with the slim 2-1 advantage but Lions seem to be on top of the exchanges.

The home side restored their two goal lead when Ghana Under-20 ace Jacob Appau coolly finished off a move from inside the box.

Lions could have levelled in the 74th minute but Daniel Bonsu missed a glorious opportunity after captain Ofosu Amoah had done all the work to set him up.

However, the Kpando-based side responded in the 92nd minute when Benjamin Fadi blasted home with a half-volley.

But Medeama never took their eyes off Emmanuel Dogbe, a second half substitute, finished off a perfect pass from Richard Mpong.

Medeama will move to eighth place but are six points behind leaders Kotoko.
