Medeama clinch Goldfields sponsorship deal

Ghana top-flight side Medeama Sporting Club have clinched a sponsorship deal mining giants Tarkwa & Damang Goldfields.

The Tarkwa-based side signed a three-year deal for Goldfields to be the headline sponsors of the club.

The mining giants have paid an undisclosed amount of money for Medeama to carry the logo of the firm in its shirt.

Medeama president Moses Armah said: "Medeama has made progress both on and off the pitch this year in Tarkwa and the entire country.

"We have made a significant progress of bringing top-flight football to Tarkwa and the Western Region and helping the community in various ways through football.

"This agreement will go a long way in is fostering the link between Goldfields and the Tarkwa community by helping to improve sport in the society.

"This deal has put the club in a good position to improve its performances and the new agreement marks a significant uplift."

The new sponsorship arrangement could free up some transfer funds for coach Bashiru Hayford to bolster his squad for next season.

Goldfields, a South Africa owned mining firm, is the key sponsor for the Black Stars that helped to boost the country financially to qualify for their first two World Cups.
