Medeama coach to name squad for pre-season on Friday, key players to be axed
New Medeama coach Prince Owusu

Prince Owusu will name his first Medeama squad on Friday ahead of the club’s pre-season tour, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

Players will find out later this week whether they will be part of his squad this season after holding light sessions with them over the last two weeks.

The former Tema Youth man  is in his first season in charge at Tarkwa after taking on the difficult task of replacing Carlos Roberto Paullete, and it is clear that big decisions will need to be made about a number of the club’s underperformers, who have been fighting for their futures in the club’s low-profile friendly sessions fixtures so far.

They will be hoping to catch the eye of the trainer as he firms up his squad ahead of their pre-season tour of Accra next week.

The development coach  could however axe some of the first team members whose futures are uncertain.

Winger Theophilus Anoobah and goalkeeper Foli Adade are believed to be unsettled at the club as they push for moves away with Hearts and Kotoko rumoured to be jostling for their signatures.

Striker Hans Kwoffie and pocket-size midfielder Joseph Gordon, Michael Helegbe as well as captain Godfred Rockson are on their way out of the club, Ghana’s leading football website understands.

Rockson and Gordon have applied for floating status while Kwoffie is believed to be interested in seeking a new challenge elsewhere.

Michael Helegbe is reported to be among some of the high-profile players who will be transfer-listed in a massive shake-up expected to hit the club in the coming days.

However, goalkeeper Muntari Tagoe, who impressed heavily during their debut appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup is a sure -bet to retain his place in the team.

Defenders Samuel Adade, Kofi Agyare as well as midfielders Kwame Boahene, Joseph Tetteh Hughes, Malik Akowuah, Victor Ayirey, Kabiru Moro, Godbless Asamoah and Nathaniel Asamoah can breathe easily as they are likely to make the squad.
