Medeama deputy spokesman Patrick Akoto wants harsher punishment for Ashantigold over medal boycott

Medeama deputy spokesman Patrick Akoto wants Ashantigold to be handed stiffer punishment for boycotting the medal presentation of the Super Cup defeat to the club.

The miners boycotted the medal session at the Accra sports stadium on Sunday over claims of bias officiating.

Ashantigold walked off the pitch immediately after the game in protest of a disallowed goal despite being the second best side on the day.

The action of the CAF Champions League campaigners has been roundly condemned.

And Medeama communication man Patrick Akoto wants the miners to face the music for their action.

"They cannot be allowed to go scot-free. What they (Ashantigold) did was pathetic," he told Accra-based Metro FM

"We cannot allow such things to happen. I am not sure it's the first time any big decision has been made by a referee.

"They benefited immensely from penalties last season and who complained? In fact they recorded 45% of the total number of penalties in the entire season.

"It's disappointing that people who want to lead GHALCA for instance instigated the boycott. They need to be punished.

"The Ghana FA cannot overlook it. They have brought the image of the competition to disrepute and must face heavy sanction.

He added: We deserved to win because we played better and dominated right from the start to finish.

"Their action is only a smokescreen for their poor performance."

Bernard Ofori scored the crucial goal three minutes from time to hand the Mauve and Yellows their first silverware for the year.
