Medeama fans go bersek over neglect, accuses President Mahama of 'selective' support after Bechem United huge donation

Medeama fans are seething with rage after Ghana President John Dramani Mahama donated GHC50, 000 to Bechem United, five months after failing to fulfill a similar pledge to the side during their 2016 CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Fans of the Yellow and Mauves feel they have been treated like 'second-class citizens' and unfairly amid assurances to construct an astro turf for United ahead of their debut participation in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup.

Medeama received no financial support from the government during their impressive run in Africa's inter-club competition with promises made turning out to be mere campaign gimmick.

But the Ghanaian leader has fulfilled a recent promise he made to the club while on campaign trail in that part of the country - with critics arguing the move is intended to woo voters ahead of the crucial elections on December 7.

While fans of Medeama are not against the decision to cushion United financially and develop infrastructure, they feel the move is discriminatory, whimsical and unequal distribution of state resources.

"We have nothing against the decision of the president to donate any amount to Bechem United. In fact we think it's the right thing to do. But we feel we have been given a raw deal,' an angry fan is quoted in the media

"Medeama participated in Africa this year but we received no financial or logistical support from the President and the government.

"Why are we not Ghanaians? Are we Togolese or Ivorians. We cannot to share the resources of the country in such an uneven manner.

"Because of votes and politics, look at what they are doing. We also vote and we shall also decide what to do with our thumbs."he fumed

The club's participation in the CAF Confederation Cup has taken a financial toll on the Tarkwa-based side, leading to an earlier decision to sell.

The club has backtracked and decided against the sale of the two-time FA Cup winners.

The two-time FA Cup champions have become a huge brand in Ghana with several influential people urging the club to stay afloat.
