Medeama midfielder Michael Helegbe says he is ‘hurt’ by Asante Kotoko’s early exit from the CAF Champions League.

The 28-year-old left the Ghanaian champions to join the Yellow and Mauves before the second half of the domestic season.

Some critical fans have attributed Kotoko’s elimination from the Champions League to the lack of depth of the squad – with Helegbe’s free transfer to Medeama their reference point.

The ex Liberty Professionals captain has helped the Tarkwa-based side advance in their debut campaign in the Confederations Cup.

He however reveals he is hurt by Kotoko’s failure to progress from the first preliminary round of the Champions League.

“It hurts when you hear a team like Asante Kotoko have been knocked out of the Champions League,” he told Montie FM.

“It is a great club with massive following to endure such a disappointment.

“But this is football and things like this can happen. They [Kotoko] now have to pick up the pieces and move on.”

The Porcupine Warriors will now be turning their sights on their domestic campaign where they are in pole position to retain their Premier League crown for the third successive time.
