Medema to face Berekum Chelsea in GHALCA G8 Cup final

Medeama SC set up a final date with Berekum Chelsea in the GHALCA Glo G8 Cup by dispatching New Edubiase 3-1 in Thursday’s second semi-final at the Essipong Stadium.

The Mauve and Yellows quality off-season signings were a handful for Edubiase and took the game by the scruff of the neck.

Medeama could have shot up as early as the ninth minute but offensive midfielder Hans Koufie missed a spot-kick.

Striker Tanko Mohammed was cynically brought down by captain Carlos Coffie inside the box and referee Charles Dowuona pointed to the spot.

Koufie had goalkeeper Iddrisu Salia completely beaten but his kick hit the side of the goal post.

On 20 minutes, midfielder Francis Coffie profited from a howler by the Edubiase goalkeeper who was off his line inside the box to striker a low grounder into a yawing net.

Salia suffered a knock in the process and was pulled off seven minutes later with a foot injury.

His place was taken by Kwaku Ofori and Medema were also forced to substitute goalscorer Cofie for Ekow Benson.

Medeama doubled the lead after 41 minutes. This time round correctly taken from the spot by captain Kwabena Edusei.

Edubiase defender Abeiku Ainusson handled a ball inside the box.

Referee Dowuona was lenient some minutes earlier when he waived a clear penalty from Medeama after Hans Koufie was clipped from behind.

The match was heading for a 2-0 first half lead when Edubiase sprung a late surprise in injury time.

Alhassan Alhaji guided in a cross from the left to finish off a sweet move by the Tarkwa-based in the 46th minute.

Back from recess, Medeama still enjoyed chunk of possession and made Edubiase pay with the third goal from Hans Koufie who made amends for his first half penalty miss.

On 69 minutes, Edubiase's net-minder Ofori acrobatically denied Koufie a brace by parrying his header from inside the box.

In the 72nd minute, Ekow Benson's long range shot took a wicked bounce in front of the goalkeeper Ofori who spilled the ball but on-rushing Koufie smashed it into the side net.

Shortly afterwards, Edubiase striker Baffoe fired a glancing volley just behind the box but goalkeeper Ahorlu palmed it into play for his defenders to thump it away.

Louis Agyeman came clsoe to adding a fourth goal but the striker who burrowed into the box shot feebly into the hands of Ofori on the 90th minute mark.

New Edubiase failed to capitalize on a break in added on time to reduce as Medeama recovered to curtail their attack.

Medeama will be playing in their first ever final of a major competition.
