Mensah looking to seal club spot with improved AFCON performance

Defender Jonathan Mensah is looking to impress at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in order to brighten his fortunes at club level.

The 21-year-old has had limited chances since moving to French side Evian at the beginning of the current campaign.

His plight was further worsened following a two-month injury layoff but fit again Mensah is ready to fill in for Isaac Vorsah who is suspend for Ghana's first two games at the Nations Cup.

The ex Free State Stars player is also hoping to take full advantage of the opportunity to indirectly make a case for himself at his club side.

"When we get into camp, all of us can have an opportunity to stake our claim for that place,” he said.

"For me the Nations Cup is very important because it is a high profile competition and if I can do well there then obviously my club looks at me differently when I get back."

Mensah was a non-playing member of the Black Stars at the Nations Cup when they reached the final in Angola two years ago but did play two games against the Germany and USA at the World Cup months later is hopeful of an improved campaign this term.

"We are used to playing well in tournaments but all of us really want to take this one step further. We really want to win."
