Metro Stars progressed to the MTN Ghana FA Cup round of 16 after posting a 2-1 win over Tema United at the Essipong Stadium on Saturday.

The Sekondi-Takoradi based side were on top after the blast of the whistle and made their territorial dominance count.

Metro scored an early goal but it was flagged offside and that was the warning shot to the visitors.

Tema United, a third-tier side, did little and looked inexperienced to cause a huge upset.

After 18 minutes, striker Theophilus Boah struck home the opener from close range after receiving a pass from partner Richard Tenko.

But Boah could not complete the first half after picking up an injury and had to replaced by Precious Naawu.

United returned from the break showing little signs of grabbing the equalizer but they were hit with the second goal in the 54th minute.

Substitute Naawau received a throw-in from the left and burrowed the box after cutting in to blast past goalkeeper Stephen Ansah.

United got a consolation in the 74th minute courtesy Abdul Rahman Sulleyman’s penalty after captain Ben Ankrah had handled a free-kick inside the area.

Others results:

Red Lions 0-1 Feyenoord Academy

Bolga All Stars 0-1 Tudu Mighty Jets

Sampa United 2-3 Okwahu United
