Michael Essien climbed off the bench to help Persib Bandung record a 3-1 win over Mitra Kukar in the Indonesia top-flight on Friday.

Essien, 34, replaced Dedi Kusnandar and contributed significantly to the victory at the Stadion Si Jalak Harupat.

Febri Haryadi opened the scoring for the home side in the 58th minute before Brazilian Marclei Chaves Santos pulled parity on 70 minutes.

However, two quick goals in injury time from Achmad Jufriyanto and Raphaël Guillermo Eduardo Maitimo broke the heart of the visitors.

Essien did not clash with former Liverpool star Mohammed Sissoko, who is serving a ban for yellow card accumulation.
