Michael Essien establishes himself at Real Madrid in four months

Michael Essien has established himself at Real Madrid

Michael Essien has firmly established himself at Real Madrid with more playing time at the Spanish giants in four months than the whole of last season at Chelsea.

The Ghanaian has left behind knee injuries and is making the most of his loan transfer to Real Madrid.

The former Chelsea midfield machine has accumulated 942 minutes between La Liga, The Kings Cup and Champions League in just four months with Real madrid.

This means Essien is very close to the number of minutes in action for Chelsea last season.

In 2011-12 season in England, Essien only played 1164 minutes in the English FA Cup, Premier League and Champions Cup.

The lack of playing time at Chelsea resulted in his loan move to Real Madrid at the end of August and coach Jose Mourinho is taking advantage of its versatility.

Mourinho has used him in three different positions; midfield – his natural position, left-back, and right-back.

Even though he is not in top form he has not lost his professionalism and desire.

Essien is gradually getting to know his peers and getting the most of their qualities. Give him some more time and he will be a star for Real Madrid.

Although Michael has won nothing for Ghana, he has been a great ambassador of Ghana football. Every African midfielder want to emulate his success. A great player in the books of Fifa, nominated twice amongst the best in the world.

  5. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

change is gwood indeed. JUS AS I PREDICTED, DI MATTEO IS NO MAS. KPBOATENG WILL BE NEXT ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK!

  6. Tanko says:

Askantwi: That was a great piece out there about people being stupid these days. Mike does need some time to put himself together and be able the Mike we all know and admire. I know because Mike himself said so. Great piece though…..

  7. peewee says:

I think Michael has never had the best advice from his agent or people arround him,he always claim injury for not playing for GH, but he plays regularly his clubs. It’s obvious he lacks petriotic spirit.Players with high patriotic spirit plays through injuries for their countries. Eg.Drogba played with hand injury at 2010 world cup in south africa.Hearts of Oak great Mohammed Polo did same for Ghana in the height of his career. And a host of others. One thing Michael is missing terribly is the fact that no matter how great you’re as a player, without acheaving a lot with your national team, the pundits and analyst of the game will always feel reluctant to grade you as among the GREATS.The desease Lionel Messi is suffering from right now becos of his inability to win something big with Argentina. So Michael wise up and commit 100% to Mother Ghana be4 your career ends.

  8. EMBER POWER says:

God Has Really bless Essien when everyone thought he could not get back to form again,God Transform him….He is an African Legend n Ghanaians we should understand him ,because we will have done what he is doing if we were to be in his shoes….Essien Jah will see you through because is not easy with African Footballers Outside

  9. Kwaku Tee says:

There is this accusation that Michael did not play at his full potential when he played for the BS,but they’ve forgotten that at the crucial time when the nation needed him he played so well.Do we remember 2006 away qualifier in Jo burg & 2010 against Mali in Bamako, had it not been his performance and that of Appiah,Sulley etc may be our World Cup history would have been nil by now.I can forsee the same situation with Zambia in Kumasi in our 2014 crucial qualifiers,we need him and Sulley to help the young ones.Congrat Michael and a fruitful new year.
