AC Milan will be without Ghana midfielder Michael Essien for their trip to Empoli on Tuesday and could be out for a further ten days with a foot injury.

The former Chelsea game changer picked the foot injury ahead of Milan's Serie A clash with Juventus during the weekend but he was passed fit to warm the bench for the Rossoneris.

However, the 31-year-old aggravated the injury further at training and Milan doctors have recommended he remains in the treatment room for the next couple of weeks.

Essien has played just once for Milan in the three week old Serie A season. That, coming in a substitute showing against Lazio on August 31.
