Ghana star Michael Essien is set to wave his way back into the Chelsea starting team after marking his season's debut in the English Premier League last weekend.

The Black Stars midfielder saw his first playing minutes of the league at the Boleyn Ground last Saturday after replacing Eden Hazard in Chelsea's dominant 3-0 win over the Hammers.

Essien at most can only play in domestic games for Chelsea after Jose Mourinho left him out of Uefa Champions League squad for the Group Stages.

With Nigerian John Mikel Obi, Ramirez and Brazilian Oscar getting the nod in central midfield, Essien was limited to League Cup games and captained the Blues to victory twice.

Mourinho was obviously impressed with Essien's last-minute show in their victory at West Ham and is ready to hand him more playing time in the Premiership.

Essien's new surge was fueled by his performance for Ghana in the World Cup qualifiers.
