Ghana midfielder Michael Essien wants the number of officials around the Black Stars team reduced over claims it serves as a distraction.

The AC Milan made this clear when he took his turn to give evidence before the Presidential Commission set up to gather facts about the team’s woeful performance at the 2014 World Cup.

Essien’s internet interaction with the commission lasted about an hour.

He told the quasi-judiciary body that the ‘large’ number of officials that accompany the team during tournaments needs to be reduced as part of his recommendations on the way forward.

“There are too many people around the team and this should be checked,” the AC Milan star said.

Officials around the team are believed to be major beneficiaries of all entitlements meant for the playing body.

This, many believe is unfair due to the perception there is no equity between the work of the players and that of the officials.
