David Villa closed NYCFCââ¬â¢s deficit to 2-1 on a penalty kick.
The Impact restored their two-goal lead thanks to Piattiââ¬â¢s penalty kick in the 84th minute, and Thomas McNamara quickly answered for NYCFC a minute later.
Former Chelsea star Frank Lampard made his debut for New York City FC as a 69th minute substitute.
