Ghana midfielder Mohammed Abu has joined French Ligue 1 side Lorient for the rest of the season after cancelling his contract with Spanish club Rayo Vallecano.

The 21-year-old has left Spanish La Liga side Rayo Vallecano where endured an unsuccessful loan spell from the start of the season.

The Right to Dream Academy product who is a property of English giants Manchester City, is hoping to recapture his form with the Ligue 1 side.

Lorient want to enhance their status in the Ligue 1 and push up the ladder from their mid-table place and manager Christian Gourcuff is sure about Abu's qualities.

"Abu Mohammed (21), capped five times by Ghana and from Manchester City has joined Lorient till the end of the 2012/13 season," a Lorient statement confirmed the move.

Abu made just a single appearance for Rayo Vallecano in the Spanish La Liga since joining them at the beginning of the season - that sole appearance coming in the 3-2 reverse at Espanyol last October.
