Bangkok: Mongolia recorded a narrow 3-1 win over China on Saturday to claim a place in the AFC U-20 Futsal Championship quarter-finals.
The Mongolians, who entered the crucial encounter knowing that only a victory and three points would be enough to claim second position in Group D ahead of the United Arab Emirates, went behind at the Hua Mark Indoor Stadium when China captain Zhou Lei opened the scoring after only two minutes.
However, goals in quick succession from Yesukhei Oyunbileg and captain Temuujin Altansukh were enough to hand Mongolia the lead heading into the half-time break, and put their qualification hopes back on track.
In what proved to be a tight and tense second period, Battulga Batbaatar struck in the 34th minute to calm any Mongolian nerves there may have been, and secure his team's passage through to the last eight.
