Mortagbe facing police arrest over Ghana FA election forgery

Ghana FA presidential aspirant Neil Armstrong Mortagbe is facing police arrest for allegedly forging the signatures of five of his nominees.

The Nima police has written to the GFA seeking to examine the nomination papers of Mortagbe over signature forgery claims.

Ten clubs must endorse the candidature of an aspirant before the elections committee of the GFA can clear someone to stand the federation’s presidential elections.

The Fifa marketing instructor was disqualified from the race on Thursday for failing to meet the requirements to stand this month’s election.

The police in Nima is seeking information after a report was made to them that Mortagbe forged the signatures of five club officials on his nomination papers.

Mortagbe only provided the initials of club officials of Medeama SC, Wassaman United, Deportivo, Bofoakwa and Great Olympics as part of his ten nominees.

The five clubs denied to have approved his candidature for the coveted position when contacted by the election committee which prompted his disqualification.

One of the club officials whose initials were used for Mortagbe’s nomination papers filed the police report claiming his signature was forged.

This prompted the police to force the GFA to provide Mortagbe’s nomination papers.

The Fifa marketing instructor has not responded to the allegations of forgery as he is expected to issue a statement on Friday.

Mortagbe along with Vincent ‘Obama’ Odotei were in the race to unseat Kwesi Nyantakyi, who will now stand unopposed after the two candidates were disqualified.
